So we went through cultural training as you know. We learned that the average American communicates in a more direct manner than the average singaporean or average Japanese. This may well be true however I have just sat across from a woman on the subway train who has had her thumb and pointer finger of one hand shoved up her nose for the past 15 minutes because the guy next to her smells!! At first I thought maybe there was another reason for this but then she confirmed my suspicion by removing both fingers leaned slightly toward the man, took a sniff, made a face and shoved the same fingers back up her nose! I'm sorry but there is not much about that that's indirect... I only wish I had the guts to take a photo of her like that! It appears that no matter where you are in the world you see crazy stuff on public transportation
